프랑스의 아름다운 자연을 `빛’이라는 매개체를 통하여 자신만의 독특한 표현 방법으로 그려내는 작가 Andre Bourrie는 그의 작품집 앞에 이렇게 써 놓았습니다.

“나의 소망은, 나의 작품 속에 자연과 하나되는 듯한 영감을 불어 넣는 것입니다. 모든 생명력을 담고 있는, 오묘함을 지닌 자연과의 일치를 꿈꾸고 있습니다.”

Andre Bourrie는 1936년 남부 프랑스의 Montpellier에서 태어났습니다. 그 곳에서 전문적인 미술교육을 받으며 자라난 그는 처음에 Painting이 아닌, ceramist로 학위를 받았습니다. 그러나 그는 도자기를 굽고, 그 위에 그림 작업을 반복하던 중, 좀 더 좋은 painting을 하고 싶다는 열망을 갖게 되었으며, 그러는 과정에서 그는<빛이 자연에 주는 음영>에 깊은 관심을 갖게 되었습니다.

그는 특히 그가 나고, 자란 남부 프랑스의 ‘태양빛 가득한 풍경’을 표현해 내는 데에 몰두하였습니다.그의 초기 작품은 ‘야수파’의 일원으로서 빛의 강렬함을 표현하는 데에 중점을 두었습니다. 그 후 두번째 단계에 접어들면서 그는 <부드러움으로서의 빛>을 그려내기 시작하였습니다.

그는 보이는 혹은, 보이지 않는, 그렇지만 명확이 우리들을 둘러 쌓고 있는 빛과 자연의 모습을 섬세하게 작품 안에 담아내었습니다. 특히 부드러움으로 표현되는 두번째 단계의 그의 작품에서, 우리는 우리가 자연에게서 받는 커다란 위안, 행복감 등을 선물 받게 됩니다.

그는 현재 New York, soho Axelle fine arts의 대표 작가로서, 그의 많은 작품들은 많은 개인 미술관과 공공 기관에 소장되어 있습니다.

André Bourrié, one of France`s foremost contemporary master, is a distinguished maritime and landscape artist. He has received innumerable awards, including the Gold Medal of the prestigious ” Salon de la Marine” and the Gold medal of the “Salon des Artistes Francais”

Born in Montpellier, France in 1936, Bourrié was abandoned by both his father and later his mother. He then lived alone until an uncle placed the young Bourrié in an orphanage. It was this harsh period that proved critical to his coming of age and was quite possible the most important in his becoming an artist.

Without parental security and guidance, the young Bourrié found solace and joy on colors, light, textures and forms. He immersed himself in the world of artists and creations, sharing ideas and styles. For years he traveled, exploring the beaches and seaside`s of the French Riviera, Vendee and the Languedoc region of France.

Today, André Bourrié is renowned for his magnificent paintings of the French countryside and seaside. His original oil paintings are represented in the United States and Europe and have been exhibited extensively in Paris as well as New York, Chicago, Beverly Hills, London, Tokyo and other major cities.
